To make replica tension adjusters for these Swedish designs is very difficult so up to now I have made my own versions, and here is another way of doing it, fairly straight forward and is very close to the original concept.
Below I am drilling out the handle to 8mm to take the tension device starting with a small drill bit first
And then a larger bit and so on until the required size is made, this way you get a nice clean accurate hole.
And then I've drilled a very small hole of 2.3mm just in front of the big one, right through the body as you can see below
Then I carefully file out the material between the two holes with a needle file and this gives a nice accurate slot
Next job below is to made a slide to fit in the hole, the top half being 8mm and the bottom section about 6.3 mm
Then the 6.3mm section is threaded to M7 this produces a very flat thread which is what I'm after
Then the piece is drilled and tapped through the centre to 2Ba
Next comes a tricky bit, a small 2mm slot is milled into the top to take a key or dog as they are sometimes called, this will run in the slot made in the handle and stop the tension spring from turning
Then below the dog is soldered into place, I suppose diehards would say it should be Silver soldered but I have tested one to destruction and it is VERY tough owing to it's short size
And below you can see the complete assembly, the tension knob has a 2ba stud fixed into it which is threaded into the sliding piece, on the bottom of the sliding piece the tension spring has been threaded on over the flat threads, a word of warning here, do NOT thread the spring on until you are about to assemble it all as it is almost impossible to get it off again, the whole assembly then drops through the top of the key the dog sliding into the slot, the spring goes through the arm and base and is fixed there, and you then have a VERY adjustable tensioner, some twenty turns across the range of tension, the operation is very similar to the original where the adjuster screws into the slide thus pulling the spring up into tension
